Basilicata is a gem hidden between two seas and dominated by a backbone of mountains which descend through dramatic foothills to the sea. Its features of gorges, valleys, forests, rivers, castles and small lakes are excellent for exploring by car.
Basilicata has a small stretch of coastline offering uncrowded sandy coves and beaches.
The lovely town of Maratea, which rises up in a wood and fades away into the Ionian sea, is set between two cliffs on the Tyrrhenian coast. Despite being known as the 'city of 44 churches', it has become one of the most sought after hideaways in the South. With its pretty little white washed streets, magnificent views and fine cuisine and wine, no wonder it is a chic seaside resort favoured by the Italians.
Sassi di Matera is a striking complex of cave-homes in the centre of Matera. From a distance, you will see holes cut into the steep rocky cliff, which, in fact, are windows, doors and even terraces, alleys and churches! This fascinating area has been declared a World Cultural Heritage Site.
Apulia is a fertile region producing excellent wine, wheat and olive oil. It is the pointed heel of Italy's boot, running down the length of the Adriatic and forming an 'instep' beside the Ionian sea.
This is one of Italy's largest provinces and its architecture and landscape make it one of the most diverse and attractive with a complex cultural mix.
It offers some of the best coastline in Italy which is dotted with numerous fishing villages winding through olive groves and is host to numerous excellent seafood restaurants.
Amongst the many small towns and villages to be found is San Cataldo, an important baroque town with a coastline of fabulous beaches, a little harbour and crystal clear water. Otranto and Santa Caterina di Nardo are also well known resorts.

Our largest property, Masseria Ostuni, sleeps up to 20 guests and is part of on an estate of 25 hectacres, with centuries-old olive trees. The villa is located in an enviable position, about 1 km from some beautiful beaches and the large grounds around the villa are dotted with courtyards and patios separated by orange and mandarin trees.
You can choose between the many white, sandy beaches or the rocky shores, where you can enjoy the sea with some of the most varied marine life in the area.
